is an extension of our larger Shelter Pet Adoption
campaign, which aims to change people’s perceptions of shelter animals, and ultimately increase adoptions across the country.
Since
we launched the campaign in 2009, the percentage of dogs and cats who
were adopted from shelters has risen from 27 to 29 percent. Euthanasia
of shelter pets is
also down 10 percent. Sadly though, we still have work to do.
Approximately 2.7 million healthy and treatable pets still lose their
lives in shelters each year.
